Epilogue: The Final Step

After exploring the different worlds of rhythm, swells, phrases and extended techniques, it is time to put these all together.

Use these sheets to plan your final composition.

Planning

  1. Map out three moods/atmospheres - use words that describe mood and music (e.g. peaceful/serene/long phrases/soft).

  2. Listen back to your GarageBand track where you saved parts from each chapter. Find sections that match the mood you want to create.

  3. Mix elements of these sections (e.g. swells, pitch combination and free rhythm) to create the atmosphere/mood you want.

  4. Record these elements on your planning sheet.

  5. Repeat for each section (each mood/atmosphere).

Recording

  1. Practice playing these and record it into a new GarageBand file (don't be afraid to record multiple takes and edit them together, shown below).
