After finally finding a time that everyone was free, I used a zoom recorder in an ensemble room to record my quartet playing the piece (video here). There were still a few discrepancies on the score that the performers noticed so I made note of these on the score (scanned here). One issue with the aleatoric section was moving from section to section, so we penciled in where Sarah would cue - this is something I will add into the final version of the score!
Bringing the two versions of the aleatoric section to try was interesting. As I suspected, the second version was more effective since the instruments blended together more, but it was good to test both out!
Since none of us had time to warm up before, playing the harmonics cleanly was challenging. As well as this, the inconsistency of vibrato and sometimes intonation marred the recording. Other than this, I think the process of recording gave me affirmation that the piece was effective, while also providing me with things to improve on/polish for future recordings and performances!
